For the Hack Productivity competition, you must submit an application that will help users increase their productivity in any area of life. There are specific category awards for applications built to increase productivity in one’s personal, professional, or family/household life. If your application does not fall into one of those categories you may still submit it as a “Wildcard” productivity app.
As you can imagine, the ways you can help your users achieve more in their lives are nearly infinite … but that doesn’t mean we haven’t thought of a few scenarios to get you going. The list of scenarios below is not exclusive; you are welcome to address a productivity need that is not listed here.
Personal Productivity
This category includes individuals managing their own lives. For instance, a student might want to better manage their education planning and use their time more efficiently. Here’s a sample scenario that you could solve for:
Problem: A student is writing an essay or thesis in which they need to cite their sources. Correct citation and reference information is important, but time-consuming.
How could you create a Microsoft Office 365 Add-in (extension) that would not only help the student add their citations quickly and easily, but would also automatically update the essay's citations if any web-based content was added at a later time?
Professional Productivity
This category includes professionals – in any size organization – who need a modern approach to improving individual and team productivity. Here’s a sample scenario that you could solve for:
Problem: A manager is searching for a more elegant (and collaborative) UX for planning and tracking their team’s deliverables. The team already uses many tools for this (such as Trello and Basecamp).
How could you create a Microsoft Office 365 Add-in (extension) that would allow the manager to see and utilize all of this data in their Office planner?
Family / Household
This category includes families of any size who need help with their day-to-day coordination around tasks and activities. Here’s a sample scenario that you could solve for:
Problem: A family (a father and his three children) are going a mile a minute. The father works full-time and coaches his daughter's lacrosse team. His other two children both have after-school activities to account for as well. They all have mobile phones that they use to stay connected when they’re not home.
How could you create a Microsoft Office 365 Add-in (extension) that would allow this family to stay connected and keep in touch about their ever-changing schedules?
